What is Chiastolite?

Chiastolite

Chiastolite is a variety of andalusite, also known as the “Cross Stone” because its cross pattern of different colors that occurs naturally. Mindat tells us, “Crystals of Andalusite contain cross-shaped inclusions of carbon. Common in some metamorphic rocks. First described in 1754 (which predates the description of its parent species andalusite by 44 years!) by a Spanish author, Franciscan priest and paleontologist José Torrubia, and published in his famous book, "Aparato para la Historia Natural Española.”

How is Chiastolite formed?

Chiastolite is commonly found in metamorphic rocks. Their actual formation process is still a mystery.

There are several ideas surrounding the development of the Chiastolite cross. The most widely recognized explanation, formulated by Frondel in 1934, contends that impurities are selectively attached to the quickly expanding corners of andalusite crystals. The concentration of these impurities, which largely consist of graphite, rises, slowing crystal formation. As the andalusite porphyroblast grows, the concentrated impurity deposit transforms into a re-entrant. The graphite forms a feather-like pattern along four radiating "arms" as the cycle of growth-retardation-growth repeats.

What are Chiastolite's Metaphysical Properties?

Chiastolite bestows strength, power, and perseverance and is extremely calming. It is considered by many to be strong protection against negative energy as it deflects it rather than absorbing it and traditionally was used to ward off curses. This crystal can help with mental/emotional balance, stability, enhancing problem-solving, adapting to change, memory, and the ability to see all sides of a problem. Uniquely, it can enhance spiritual awareness, harmony, and practical creativity.

Chakra Healing Properties

Chiastolite is associated with the Root Chakra and is favored by crystal healers to balance this Charka.

The Root Chakra is located at the base of the spine and controls the energy for kinesthetic feeling and movement. It is the foundation of physical and spiritual energy for the body. When physically out of balance, the symptoms manifest themselves as lethargy, low levels of activity, low enthusiasm, and a need for constant stimulation. Red crystal energy is used to clear blockages and re-balance the Root Chakra. This can help us regain our sense of power.

Color Energy

Chiastolite embodies the brown ray of color. Brown is a very comfortable color for humans. It is the color of the home, hearth, and nature. It makes us feel good. Brown is the color of the surface of the earth. It is the color of grounding and connection. It is the relaxation color, the color of being once again “on the ground” and at rest. Brown is a retreat color, a restful color, and the most common color on Earth. Most animals and plants are brown in some parts.

Meditation with Chiastolite

Chiastolite

Chiastolite is used in mediation to enhance insight and assist in communications with Higher sources of information and intelligence. It sensitizes a person to their spiritual capabilities. It enhances inner vision and allows for smooth communications with the Spirit world. In addition, this crystal calms anger and stress before a formal meditation effort.

In the Book of Stones, Robert Simmons reports that this stone improves your intuition and psychic abilities. He notes it is an excellent stabilizing influence. Naisha Ahsian tells us it is used in supporting the practice of breath work for emotional healing. In Love Is In The Earth, Melody notes that this crystal is excellent for improving your patience and maintaining a calm state during periods of increased responsibility and stress.

Crystals and Angels

Chiastolite is associated with the Angel Cambiel, also known as the angel of magic. He is the ruler of the zodiac sign Aquarius. He is often mistaken with Archangel Gabriel as the ruler of the month of January. Guardian Angel Cambiel is the angel of the 9th hour of the day.

Meaning in Talismans and Amulets

Chiastolite Tumbled Set (Large)-0

Chiastolite is a Dispeller Builder crystal. Dispellers are crystals that form in the orthorhombic crystal system. They are very helpful talismans for mental and spiritual problems. All of us have problems. Some are physical, some spiritual. Certainly, our lives would be more enjoyable and productive if we could rid ourselves of them. Worry, anxiety, fear, and doubt can literally cripple us and make our lives miserable. When crystals are carbonates, they have the earth energy of Builders. These crystals, like Chiastolite, are excellent in applications in which something new needs to be made from something old. Woodworkers, stone workers, artists, painters, and others involved in the creative arts benefit from this type of crystal.

Using Chiastolite in Feng Shui

Chiastolite contains Wood Energy. Wood energy is traditionally associated with the East and Southeast areas of a home or room. It is associated with the Family and Health area and the Prosperity and Abundance area. Wood energy is vital to your well-being. It is associated with family, ancestors, and community. Use this stone in the East area of a room or home if you want to keep Qui, the Universal Life Force, flowing properly there. Chiastolite will enhance energy flow, aiding your efforts that are devoted to enhancing family and community.

How to use Chiastolite?

Magic Of Memories

Chiastolite, the crystal of the Angel Cambiel, has a wonderful use - as the Magic of Memory Stone. There is real magic in our memories. People we have loved, favored pets, good times at school, times with family and friends, picnics, parties, trips, and even the quiet times of happy daily life. And there is a stone that has the power of magical memories - our Chiastolite. This magic is easily invoked, and we highly encourage you to do so for your spirit; it needs it. Here is how:

Chiastolite Tumbled Set (Large)-155592

You will find that this crystal shows a cross when it is cut into a slab. These are a bit expensive, but the tumbled versions are not so much and are equally powerful. First, get two or three tumbled Chiastolite stones.

Next, keep them in a small dish near where you sit in the evening or near your bed. Let them be near when you are relaxed. Let their essence interact with your subconscious during the evenings.

When you think of it and want to bring back some of the joys of your life, pick them up and tumble them around in your hand as you do with loose change in your pocket.

As you handle them, let your mind drift until the memories begin. Then slowly move the stones around in your hand aimlessly. Drift. Lastly, move the stones slower and slower until the memories flow. This seems to work well when you let the stones sit a few days near you between uses.

Try bringing some wonder of “good days” back with a few of these “cross-stones.”
