In Feng Shui, metal is one of the five elements of all energy. The others are Fire, Wood, Earth, and Water. As explained in the Feng Shui part of the Crystal Vaults, each of these elements are critical to keep in balance in our lives and in our homes.
Metal energy is the energy of intelligence, contraction, healing, and creativity. It is the energy of togetherness and crystallization – of ideas, of concepts, and of groups. It is hard, sharp, and often destructive, yet an essential element in all lives. We have to be sharp, unyielding, and hard at times to find our way without being a victim of others. The metal element brings the power of concentration and determination to our lives and our dwellings.
Metal energy is symbolized by silver, gray, and white. Use these colors of crystals to enhance any space that you use for concentration, gathering strength, or working with a group. Use white, gray or silver crystals to bring the sharp power of concentration and diligence to areas of your home and life that are focused on assuring you are powerful in ways you need to be.
Metal energy is traditionally associated with the northwest and west areas of a home or room. It is associated with the Helpful People and Blessings, and Travel area of your life and dwelling, and with the Creativity and Children area. Its energy of crystallization will solidify your efforts and determination.
In the Black Hat approach to Feng Shui, the metal element is associated with the area to the far right of your entry door. This area should have metal energy. Use metal objects as furniture in this area or, if that is impractical, an arrangement of white silver or gray crystals.
You can support the metal energy in a location by not only adding some white or silver crystals to bring the energy into the space, but also by adding some earth energy to that space to support the metal element. Light brown crystals near the white or silver ones are perfect.
If there is is too much fire energy in a space that needs metal energy, for example a lot of red or violet furnishing in the northwest or west area, it should be reduced to keep it from harming the metal energy. Traditionally blue or black crystals representing the water element are used. A cluster of cavansite on stilbite is perfect.
Metal energy diminishes wood energy, and enhances water energy. Silver and white crystals can be used in areas where there is too much of the wood element or in an area with too little of the water element. The metal element like the others, is essential for life. You need firmness, unity, and power in your life and life spaces.
