Lesson 4 - Crystal Healing (part 11)
We now turn the Color Wheel of Life to the color of amethyst.
Amethyst is the red-violet ray that connects both time and color. It leads from the old year to the new and connects the red end of the visible spectrum to the violet at the other end of our perception. This potent, powerful color brings things together, wraps them around, and solidifies them.
It connects beginnings to ends, joins life to new life, and makes the great circle of life complete once again. It captures the dying rays of the sun and sends the message that winter is arriving.
In this way, amethyst is the color of creativity. As the world begins to cycle through a time of renewal once again, creating the means for the rapid growth of the new spring, we too prepare for new creations by allowing a quiet time of reflection and insight.
This color ray, amethyst, the color of the gemstone of the same name, is the color of natural birthstones of those born as the old year wanes and the new is about to arrive at the winter solstice (November 21–December 20).
The color ray amethyst combines the fiery passion of the red ray tempered with the intuition of the violet ray. In doing so, it helps us see with both our emotions and our logic.
Can there be any more potent combination than imagination and passion? This combination makes amethyst the color ray of vision, insight, and self-knowledge.
Amethyst
Use stones and crystals that have the Amethyst ray for artistic inspiration, creativity, inventiveness, being original, creating new visualizations, and dispelling illusions.
Amethyst rays are particularly helpful in artistic endeavors in which new, original results need to be created using the tools and methods of previous times.
Amethyst-colored crystals are the Artist’s Stone, the Composer’s Stone, the Inventor’s Stone, the Poet’s Stone, and the Painter’s Stone. They bring the natural power of creativity to us. They help us visualize, create, and invent. They stimulate our creativity.
Because they reflect the color rays that connect the old and the new, in darker shades amethyst crystals give us the deep vision needed to see the future.
When you need to know what lies ahead, when the need is great, use deep amethyst ray crystals to find your way into a difficult future. They give us powerful insight and enhance our perception of the potential effects of our decisions. Use dark-colored amethyst crystals for discernment, good decision-making, insight, and perception, including divination efforts.
In lighter shades, the amethyst ray of vision helps us see into our souls and ourselves. The admonishment “know thyself” is profound advice.
A light amethyst crystal can be a tremendous help. It helps us see ourselves as we are, and it helps us understand how others see us.

Let’s look at two of the most popular and useful: Amethyst and Spirit Quartz.
Amethyst
Amethyst has been highly esteemed throughout the ages for its stunning beauty and legendary powers to stimulate and soothe the mind and emotions. It is a semi-precious stone in today’s classifications, but to the ancients, it was a “Gem of Fire,” a precious stone worth, at times in history, as much as a Diamond.
It has always been associated with February, the month the Romans dedicated to Neptune, their water god, and is the traditional birthstone for that month. It is the stone of St. Valentine and faithful love and signifies ecclesiastical dignity as the Bishop’s Stone. It carries the energy of fire and passion, creativity and spirituality, yet bears the logic of temperance and sobriety.
Amethyst is the traditional birthstone of those born in February and is associated with the sign of Pisces. It utilizes Fire Energy and may be used in devotions to Minerva, the Etruscan Goddess of Wisdom, Sophia, the Goddess of Wisdom, and Ixcuiname, the Mayan Goddess of the Four Ages of Women.
Spirit Quartz
Spirit Quartz is an unusual member of the Quartz family - a community within a stone. Its core, a larger, candle-shaped crystal with a faceted termination point, is encrusted with hundreds of smaller crystal termination points. Also referred to as Cactus Quartz or Porcupine Quartz, it is found only in the Magaliesberg Mountain region of South Africa, first appearing around 2001.
Amethyst Spirit Quartz varies in shades of pale lilac to deep purple and activates the higher Crown chakras, bringing in spiritual information and providing multi-dimensional healing. It is very cleansing to the aura and can dispel negative attachments and entities, and repair holes in the etheric body.
It is a compassionate stone facilitating the transition to other states of being. It assists a soul facing death provides immense support throughout a terminal illness, and can be an effective tool for spirit release, attracting guides for the journey.
The Amethyst color brings passion and imagination, emotion and logic. It stimulates creativity and is particularly helpful in artistic endeavors.
A stone of non-duality, Spirit Quartz perfectly blends and balances the energies of male and female, yin and yang, and enhances all metaphysical abilities. It facilitates the transition between different brainwave states, heightening awareness and psychic perception, and encourages insightful dreams. It assists in out-of-body journeying and the ascension process, activates the light body and provides multi-directional spiritual and cellular healing.

Spirit Quartz Aura Brushing
Spirit Quartz has a resonance that is spiritually uplifting, radiating high-vibrational energy in all directions, and is a perfect ally in aligning the aura, chakras, meridians, and the physical body, as well as carrying the gifts of Spirit out into the world.
Ingredients
- Red cotton yarn
- A few fresh red Geranium blossoms
- A few sprigs of Rosemary
- 1 palm-sized spirit quartz crystal (any type)
Directions
- On the full moon or when the moon is waning, ideally outdoors in full sunlight (but it’s okay if this isn’t possible), using a small amount of red cotton yarn, tie a few fresh red geranium blossoms together with a few sprigs of fresh rosemary.
- Stand comfortably on the earth, consciously relaxing your body and mind.
- Hold a spirit quartz crystal in one hand and take some deep breaths. Then, starting at your head and moving downward, gently brush your aura with the crystal and bundle it by holding it about 6-12 inches above your skin.
- Imagine you are sloughing off negativity and stagnation and refreshing yourself with beautiful bright light and life-force energy. If you are doing this for a loved one, follow the same directions but have them relax in a similar way, then brush their aura for them.
- When this feels complete, visualize yourself (or your loved one) in a sphere of golden-white light. In any way that feels right to you, say a quick prayer or invocation for vibrant health and overall well-being. Express gratitude to the Divine.
- Finish by releasing the bundle in a moving body of water or at the base of a tree. Keep the spirit quartz crystal on you whenever you feel your aura needs cleansing.

Lesson 4 - Crystal Healing (part 12)
We now turn the Color Wheel of Life to violet. At the onset of the darkness of winter, the oranges and reds of autumn give way to the deeper winter tones of violet and blue. The skies are darker with less sunshine; the earth takes on the darker hue of winter’s majesty.
Violet is the color of natural birthstones of those born at the time when the year is new, just after the winter solstice (December 21–January 19).
Like the sleepy, misty time of year that produces its rays, violet is the color ray of intuition, dreams, nobility, and luxury. As the color ray of influence that begins the cycle of life once again, violet is one of the most powerful rays in nature.
It inspires awe and invites a feeling of mystery and magic, reminiscent of the mystery and magic of life’s rejuvenation and renewal.
Violet color rays are powerful aids in interpreting our dreams, inspiring us to do great deeds and accomplishments, and putting the magic back in our lives and relationships.
Violet is the color of music; it stirs us, transforms us, and connects us in seemingly mysterious ways to our dreams, our past, and ourselves.
Violet
Use violet crystals to follow your heart, for inspiration in your life, to grow your intuition, and to bring the joy of music to your soul.
Dark violet crystals have special powers. They are the “dream crystals.” They are the windows to the soul and the world beyond our ordinary understanding. They are best for aiding us in interpreting our dreams and are the entries to places in our minds we don’t know to exist.
They are the legendary third eye that gives us the “sight of insight.” Used well, a deep violet crystal can help us see the new visions of reality that we seek.
A faceted, translucent, vibrant dark violet crystal is magic on a higher plane. Dark violet is the true color ray of good luck. Luck is a dream manifested. Dark violet is the color ray that connects dreams and reality.
Dark Violet Crystals are used for vivid dreams, enchantment, magic, and good luck, to soothe nightmares, and to summon and interact with magical beings.
Crystals are lavender, the lighter shade of violet, and contain the rays that aid us in the wisdom of self that violet provides, but they are more focused on our feelings and understanding our hidden yearnings.
These are the crystals of the free, unfettered intellect and the unfettered heart. Use these beautiful crystals to fulfill your dreams that involve heartfelt desires for love and affection.
Use them to gain the knowledge you need to live with grace and style. The light-colored violet crystals are the crystals for imagination, elegance, ingeniousness, and luxury.
Many minerals that form amethyst-colored crystals also form violet shades, particularly Amethyst. Fluorite, violet sapphire, Super Seven, Charoite, and Umbalite ( a garnet) are all excellent choices for bringing the energy of the violet ray to your healing regimens. They are also excellent choices for dealing with issues of the Crown Chakra.
The Crown Chakra
The crown chakra is our gateway to the expanded universe beyond our bodies. It controls how we think, and how we respond to the world around us. It is the fountainhead of our beliefs. It is the source of our spirituality.
It connects us to the higher planes of existence. It extends our energy beyond our body. It is the gateway to higher sources of information and universal energy and truth.
It is the source of our coordination - the relationship of movement between the parts of our bodies and the relationship of our movement through life.
When it is in balance we are in physical balance. We are coordinated. We fit together. Our energies are in balance. We know our place in the universe. We are flexible, and we understand the ebb and flow of life. We see things as they are, and are unruffled by setbacks, knowing they are an essential part of life. We do not cling to outdated ideas or attitudes but rather keep ourselves within the flow of life.
When the crown chakra is out of balance or its energy is blocked, you will feel clumsy, uncoordinated, and out of sorts with life. You will stumble in both movements and thoughts. You will be uninspired and out of step.
The world will seem to be spinning, and you will be unsure of who you are or why you even exist. You will be rigid in your thinking, and be spiritually adrift. Your consciousness will be limited, and possibilities will not appear to you. You will have difficulty understanding relationships, ideas, and dreams.
Imbalances of the crown chakra are treated with violet crystals. Their violet rays have the universal life force of magic, dreams, inspiration, and destiny. A variety of therapies are necessary for treating crown chakra balance problems.
In addition to practicing violet crystal healing, spend time dreaming. Try connecting to the spirit world you know exists. On a physical plane, do exercises that require coordination. Yoga postures that emphasize coordination and balance are well worth your time.

Let’s explore a couple of violet crystals. Two of my favorites are Violet Fluorite and Charoite.
Violet Fluorite
Violet Fluorite is the most peace-giving of the Fluorites, dedicated to the devotional aspects of the mind that connect with the Spirit. It purifies the mind and enhances mental acuity, stimulating the Crown and Third Eye Chakra in order to bring a logical and conscious awareness of the mental processes and how one thinks.
It is an excellent crystal for focused meditation and boosts one’s intuitive and psychic abilities.
Violet Fluorite is a stone of protection, thought to become more protective the longer it is used, and is an ideal “Dream Crystal,” defending one from evil spirits and bad dreams. It radiates a marvelous energy throughout the light body relieving stress, spiritual discomfort, and physical blockages.
Fluorite has a wonderful, stabilizing effect on the emotional body, helping one to “think through” one’s feelings when overwhelmed and to allow a coherent pattern to emerge that dissolves confusion, vacillation, fear of the future, or of making a wrong decision. It gently brings suppressed feelings to the surface for resolution and is beneficial in countering mental disorders.
Fluorite helps dispel illusion and rigid thinking to reveal the truth and help one move beyond narrow-mindedness to the bigger picture. It increases self-confidence and structures one’s energy to unearth one’s true potential.
Charoite
Charoite is an incredible stone of the Violet Ray with an almost tangible movement of energy flowing in magnificent swirls and eddies of violet, lavender, and purple. It is rare and complex, one of nature’s best dream stones and illuminators, allowing access to lessons learned in past lives, healing emotional fears to live in the present, and opening to spiritual guidance for the future.
This stone embodies a unique synthesis between the Crown and Heart Chakras, bringing high spiritual energy into union with unconditional love from the physical plane, and grounding it here on Earth where it is needed most.
Charoite is a stone for overcoming and releasing fear and negativity. It allows one to recognize and examine the cause of unconscious fears, as well as deeply rooted, internalized negativity, and to discriminate between what is real and what the mind has created. Its cleansing energy aligns the heart and intellect and allows one to see oneself, and others, through a spirit of unconditional love and acceptance.
It encourages flexibility and “letting go” of negative vibrations, and inspires one to move forward in relationships and in viewing the world. Charoite is also beneficial in putting things into perspective and overcoming resistance to change. It helps battle compulsions and obsessions, and tempers frustration and worry by bringing about a more relaxed attitude.

Violet Sapphire Meditation Aid
There are many that consider meditation a subject that is not quite simple. However, there are many benefits of meditation. Meditation can restore one’s vitality mentally, physically, and emotionally. It is relaxing and calming especially if one lives a hectic, fast-paced lifestyle.
It helps revitalize the conscious mind while providing a clear concentration on breathing and life. Having a meditation aid can be useful in times when it is hard to shut out disturbances and keep a positive state of mind.
Crystals are one of the handiest tools we have available to use while meditating, especially crystals like violet sapphire. Violet Sapphire provides calm energy for meditation. It assists in opening the mind to higher guidance and is particularly helpful in bringing about an enhanced dream state.
Ingredients
- 3 drops of cedarwood essential oil
- 2 drops patchouli essential oil
- 2 drops of lavender essential oil
- 1 cup Violet Sapphire water (the post includes the directions for making Violet Sapphire water)
- Amber-colored glass spray bottle
Directions
- Combine ingredients in an amber-colored glass spray bottle. Gently swirl in a clockwise fashion. Spray in the area in which you plan to meditate. Keep stored in the refrigerator.
- If you do not want to create a spray, simply add the essential oils to a diffuser with the preferred stones placed near you.
