Description: Saffordite Tumbled Stone. Saffordites are lovely lavender-colored natural glass stones found only in one place on Earth. Often called Saffordite tektites or sometimes referred to as Arizona Tektites, they are really members of the obsidian glass family of rocks. This is natural Obsidian, volcanic glass, although there is some debate about this. Some believe this to be a tektite, but there is no real evidence for this. These stones are hard to find and scattered over about a 100-mile radius in one part of the Arizona desert. They look like normal brown rocks, but upon closer look, you will see pits and craters and dimples that seem to be of extraterrestrial origin.
Holding one up to the sun you will see a lavender stone. Hold it in front of a bright flashlight light, and you will be rewarded by seeing an orange or white stone shining through the exterior. It is quite a sight.
This stone is sometimes called the Chintamani “the wishing stone.” I suspect you will find it seems to help wishes come true. The legends of the Saffordite are similar to that of the green Moldavite. Perhaps the creation of these is similar.
