Rosasite is a crystal that is found in the oxidation zone of copper-zinc deposits. It is often quite colorful, forming in bright blue-green, sky blue, light blue, green, and even clear, sometimes all on one crystal! First identified in 1908 by Domenico Lovisato, the name Rosasite comes from the mine it was discovered in, Rosas Mine in Sulcis, Sardinia, Italy. In structural form, Rosasite is most similar to Malachite. In its chemical makeup, Rosasite is most similar to Aurichalcite. However, they can be easily distinguished as Rosasite is twice as hard (Mohs scale) as Aurichalcite.
