[ Gienger, 13] It is suggested that it be used with modern medicines by placing an amethyst on a painful location to augment any pain medicine or regime that is being used. Remember, crystals work to enhance and magnify the energies of modern medicine, not to replace them. Also some practitioners have found that Amethyst's physical healing power can strengthen the immune system and that Amethyst healing energies can be used in the treatment of hearing disorders, and to stimulate the sympathetic nervous system. It is also useful in treating digestive track, heart, stomach, and teeth pain. [Hall, 54]

Amethyst's emotional healing energies have long been used to cure nightmares, particularly in children, and to cure insomnia. Place it near the bed for protection against nightmares, and under a pillow to cure insomnia. [Eason 212] [Hall CV 55] [Melody 111] It is particularly prescribed for homesickness too. [Megemont, 25]. Historically it has been a protection against drunkenness and addictions and is well known to calm the mind and promote emotional centering. It drives out rage, anger, fear and anxiety. [Eason 212]
[Hall 54]. It is great to focus and amplify the Life Force to reduce the pain of a headache. [Mella, 73]

Amethyst is a stone of the "Third Eye" and is usually placed there during many crystal healing therapies. [Raphaell 79]. While some practitioners find it can stimulate the throat chakra, most are finding success using it to balance and unblock the crown chakra. [Simmons, 28]
When the crown chakra out of balance or its energy is blocked, you will feel clumsy, uncoordinated, and at sorts with life. You will stumble in both movement and thought. You will be uninspired and out of step. The world will seem to be spinning, and you will be unsure of who you are or why you even exist. You will be rigid in your thinking, and be spiritually adrift. Your consciousness will be limited, and possibilities will not appear to you. You will have difficulty understanding relationships, ideas, and dreams. Use an Amethyst to restore the balance in your spirit energy of the crown chakra.

It has been found to have an ability to help someone get in touch with their intuition and to know their real inner self. [Mella, 73] The Spiritual powers of Amethyst bestow stability, strength, invigoration, and most of all, peace. [Melody, 109]

Amethyst Color Energy
Amethyst is the red-violet ray that connects both time and color. It leads from the old year to the new and connects the red end of the visible spectrum to the violet at the other end of our perception.
This potent, powerful color brings things together, wraps them around, and solidifies them.
It connects beginnings to ends, joins life to new life, and makes the great circle of life complete once again. It captures the dying rays of the sun, and sends the message that winter is arriving.

[Kunz, 345] Some modern writers now suggest that Amethyst is also associated with Aquarius [Eason 212] but this seems to be a minority view. Amethyst is also associated with Thursday, "Thor's Day." It would seem that Amethyst would certainly be your crystal of choice on Thursdays during February and early March. [Fernie, 170]

Amethyst has long been known and used for varied purposes. Jewish priest wore it to symbolize spiritual power. Romans used it as a stone of physical poer, Egyptians used it as a healing stone to ease fears and guilt. The Romans used it to protect against drunkenness and overindulgence and to cure insomnia [Mella, 73]
The bishops wore it in the ring to protect from mystical intoxication. Kissing the ring kept a person from similar mystical intoxication and grounded in correct spiritual thought. Also, there is a story that that St Valentine had an Amethyst ring with a cupid engraved upon it. While this was certainly not a religious ring, but its symbolism has endured to this day. The story may well be true, telling us why Amethyst is associated with St Valentines Day. [Kunz, 257]
