rhodoliteIntroduction to Meaning and Uses of Rhodolite

Rhodolite is a variety of Pyrope Garnet. Its name is derived from two Greek words meaning "rose stone." It displays all the brilliancy and fire of the Garnets, with a beautiful color ranging from rose red to pale violet.

It is known as a Stone of Inspiration, bringing the inspiration of love via the heart and mind. [Melody, 564] It helps one receive abundance on an emotional level, stimulating one's sense of self-worth and alleviating feelings of inadequacy. It assists in owning one's gifts and abilities, and sharing them with others. [Ahsian, 169]

chakra balancing with crystalsRhodolite Chakra Healing and Balancing Energy

Rhodolite Garnet offers healing energies, with physical, emotional and spiritual support of the Base, Heart and Crown Chakras. [Simmons, 168] It can initiate the rise of the Kundalini energy and its support throughout the chakras. [Melody, 563]

The Base, or Root Chakra, is located at the base of the spine, and controls the energy for kinesthetic feeling and movement. It is the foundation of physical and spiritual energy for the body. When the Base Chakra is in balance, the physical body gains strength and stamina, and spiritual energy is rekindled in the form of security and sense of one's own power. It often leads to independence and spontaneous leadership.

The Crown Chakra is located at the top of the head, and is our gateway to the expanded universe beyond our bodies. It controls how we think, and how we respond to the world around us. It is the fountainhead of our beliefs and the source of our spirituality. When the Crown is in balance, our energies are in balance. We know our place in the universe and see things as they are. We are unruffled by setbacks, knowing they are an essential part of life.

Rhodolite crystals in shades of pink reflect the Light of the heart and love, and help stimulate the Heart Chakra. The Heart Chakra is located near the center of the breastbone and regulates our interaction with the external world and controls what we embrace and what we resist. It gives us the balancing ability to be ourselves within the environment, and helps in our relationships.

Rhodolite brings a loving heart energy into the lower chakras and is wonderful to use during pregnancy. [Ahsian, 169]

crystal color powerRhodolite Color Energy

Red Garnet has the hot, stirring color ray of passion, energy, and life. It is emotionally intense, and brings us a self-confidence built on fearlessness. In lighter shades of red or pink, Rhodolite's passion and power is toned down to subtler, more feminine aspects. Light red, or pink Rhodolite brings the energy rays of determination, commitment, and caring. Its soothing color calms feelings of anger or resentment, and can aid efforts to meditate and reflect. Pink is the color of new love, new romance and new relationships. It increases developing sensuality, and can help overcome heartache, aiding in the improvement of our caring and loving abilities.

Amethyst Rhodolite embodies the red-violet ray that connects both time and color, of beginnings and endings, as the old year wanes and the new is about to arrive. It tempers the fiery red ray with the intuition of the violet ray, bringing passion and imagination, emotion and logic. It stimulates creativity and is particularly helpful in artistic endeavors. Rhodolite's light amethyst ray of vision helps us peer into our souls and see ourselves as others see us. It is the ray of self-esteem and self-knowledge.

Violet Rhodolite takes on the darker hue of winter's majesty, the time just after the winter solstice. It inspires awe, and invites a feeling of mystery and magic, nobility and luxury. It is one of the most powerful rays in nature, helping us interpret our dreams and inspiring us to great deeds and accomplishments. Lavender talismans, the lighter shade of violet, provide not only the wisdom of self, but focuses on our feelings and understanding our hidden yearnings. They're crystals of the free, unfettered intellect and heart.

Goddess Crystals for AmethystRhodolite Goddess Crystals

All Garnets honor Sekhmet, the Egyptian Goddess of War. She is the most powerful goddess of Lower Egypt, and is usually depicted with the head of a lion and the body of a beautiful woman.

Rhodolite Garnet also honors Demeter, the Greek Goddess of the Harvest. She brings an end to the barren wintertime, filling the fields with life-giving grain.

Red Garnet honors Hestia, the Goddess of Home and Hearth, because of its fire element and use for protection and strength.

Violet Garnet honors Sophia, Goddess of Wisdom and contradiction personified. She is the story of being lost then regained, the wisdom of understanding, doubting, and spiritual exploration without dogma.

talisman uses

Rhodolite Amulets and Talismans

As an amulet, Garnet was worn on the body for strong protection against poisons. [Mella, 85]

A Warrior's Stone, Garnet served as a talisman in the Crusades for both the Christians and their Muslim enemies. [Megemont, 87]

As a member of the Pyrope Garnet family, Rhodolite Garnet is an Enhancer Strengthener crystal. Enhancers have internal crystal lattices of perfect cubic symmetry and internal harmony. As "building block" talismans, their internal structure of perfect crystal lattices help us focus our efforts to build on our successes and enhance our lives.

Strengtheners are crystals that are chemically formed in the island silicate class. This class of minerals forms very compact materials that are strong, resistant, and unyielding. Strengthener crystals provide you with the energy to resist temptations and resist distractions from your goals. Garnets are the best known Strengtheners and the perfect talismans to keep us on course.

Feng Shui usesRhodolite Feng Shui

Rhodolite Garnets have fire energy. Fire energy is the energy of enthusiasm, warmth, brightness, illumination and activity. It is Yang in nature. It is the energy of heat, action, emotion and passion - of ideas, of concepts, and sex.

Fire energy is traditionally associated with the south area of a home or room, and like the fiery gemstones, should be used in moderation. It is associated with the fame and reputation area of your life and dwelling. Use its energy for a boost to enhance your standing in the community and within your family.

Lore_and _legend of crystals Garnets in Ancient Lore and Legend

Garnets were employed as inlaid stones in Celtic and Anglo-Saxon jewelry. [Fernie, 19] Garnets the color of fire were also called Carbuncles (from fire-coals), and the Hebrew name for the carbuncle was Bareketh (flashing stone) or Barak (lightning). It was a stone in the breastplate of the High Priest. Eastern legends assert that a carbuncle was suspended by Noah, in the Ark, to diffuse light. The Greeks called the carbuncle the Lamp Stone and it was said, if hung around the neck, to give the power of seeing in the dark. [Fernie, 158-159] [Mella, 86]

Greek mythology speaks of Garnet as a stone that can, through divine influence, heal emotional rifts between lovers. [Simmons, XXI]

A Warrior's Stone, Garnet served as a talisman in the Crusades for both the Christians and their Muslim enemies. The Merovingians brought garnets from faraway Ceylon (Sri Lanka) through the Silk Road, combining it with amber from the Baltic to create magnificent jewels. Since these two stones balanced each other, one warm, one cold, some see the source of the Frankish civilization in this combination, the amber tempering the warrior-like fieriness of the Germanic people. [Megemont, 87]

Low libido and sexual disorders were credited to be relieved by the application of Garnet directly to the genital organs. Princess Palatine discovered her husband, the brother of King Louis XIV, applying garnets on his body in this way. Though he asked her not to reveal this to anyone, she instead told the whole court and wrote about it in her many famous letters. [Megemont, 87]

Garnet is a conqueror's stone. Legend has it that a garnet ornamented Don Juan's ring. [Megemont, 88]

The well-formed image of a lion, if engraved on a garnet, will cure the wearer of all diseases, protect and preserve his honor and health, and guard him from all perils in traveling. [Kunz, 133]

Some Asiatic tribes used red garnets as bullets for sling bows because they pierced their victims quickly and were well hidden when they mingled with the blood. At other times they were placed in wounds to encourage clotting of the blood. [Mella, 85] The tribes continued to use them later as bullets in firearms, assuming the blood-colored stone would inflict a more deadly wound than a leaden bullet. Such were used by the rebellious Hanzas, in 1892, during their hostilities with the British troops on the Kashmir frontier, and many of these precious missiles were preserved as curiosities. [Kunz, 33-34]
