Blue ChalcedonyIntroduction to the Meaning and Uses of Blue Chalcendony

Blue Chalcedony is a demure crystal, subtle and mystic, cool and serene, ethereal yet solid. It has an inviting, soft blue translucence, and an almost imperceptible movement within the stone that invokes a stillness of silent reverence. It's calming, and speaks of spirit and trust.

Chalcedony is a member of the Quartz family with a cryptocrystalline structure, perfect for magnifying its crystal energy to soothe and restore balance, from the conscious mind to the inner child, all the way down to the animal self. Its name may be derived from the Greek port city of Chalcedon. The ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece and Rome used varieties of Chalcedony in jewelry and carvings, and, as gems of antiquity, they were believed to imbue their holders with certain powers. [Simmons, 104-105]

Chalcedony is known as the Speaker's Stone, the stone of one who must measure his words. It encourages reflection and meditation, its gentle radiance preparing us for action but helping to hold back words we might regret. The great Roman orator, Cicero, is said to have worn one around his neck. [Megemont, 49-50]

Considered a nurturing stone, Chalcedony absorbs negative energy and dissipates it before it can be passed on. It promotes brotherhood and good will, opening the mind to new ideas, instilling feelings of benevolence and generosity. [Melody, 193][Hall, 101-102]

Chalcedony was considered a sacred stone by the Native American Indians, using it to promote stability during their ceremonial activities. It is still in use today for meditations, and as a pathway for receiving successful thought transmissions. [Melody, 193]

Blue Chalcedony is an excellent crystal for public speakers and those who speak for a living. Lawyers and political speakers might benefit from touching this stone to the tip of their tongue while listening to their opponents to enhance their counter arguments.

Actors might rub it against their lips and throat, while singers may drink a glass of water in which Chalcedony has soaked for an hour before going on stage. Wearing this crystal around the neck helps overcome stage fright and the fear of public speaking. [Megemont, 50]

As a stone of peace and peace-making, Blue Chalcedony encourages stillness and calm in the home for those at odds with one another, vying for their place in the pecking order. It is also beneficial for daily journeys to work, or stressful trips involving children. [Eason, 244]

chakra balancing with crystalsBlue Chalcedony Chakra Healing and Balancing Energies

As a stone of communication, Blue Chalcedony stimulates the Throat Chakra.

The Throat Chakra is the voice of the body, a pressure valve that allows the energy from the other chakras to be expressed. If it is blocked or out of balance, it can affect the health of the other chakras. In balance, it allows for the expression of what we think and what we feel.

We can communicate our ideas, beliefs, and emotions. When the throat chakra is in balance and open, we can bring our personal truth out into the world. We have an easy flow of energy within the body and spirit. The energy that springs upward from the lower chakras can continue its path enabling free expression and natural release.

talisman uses

Blue Chalcedony Amulets and Talismans

Chalcedony was used by ancient seafarers as an amulet to prevent drowning. [Kunz, 39]

Chalcedony was also used as a talisman by the Assyrians and Babylonians as far back as 4000 B.C. in the form of a seal, or signet, carved into a cylindrical pendant and engraved with religious or mythological subjects. Worn suspended from the neck or wrist, it not only protected its wearer, but its imprint on a document legitimized a contract. [Kunz, 121]

Blue Chalcedony is a Seeker Transformer talisman. Seeker crystals contain the energy structure that aligns the natural energy of the crystal to the natural power of the human mind to find the way to new horizons and new capabilities. They're pointers, directors, and compasses; the fresh start crystals. These are talismans of the scientist, the adventurer, the hunter, wanderer, and explorer. They're also crystals of the student and the researcher.

Transformer crystals enhance efforts to change our situations, prospects, health, outlook or relationships. By transforming ourselves we transform our lives. We learn to dance or speak a new language, grow stronger, or become a better spouse or child. Seeker crystals with the earth power of the Transformer are excellent talismans to aid our efforts to grow, develop new capabilities and change our lives.
